How do They Celebrate Easter in Armenia

Every Christian country celebrates Easter – the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ.

Christians believe that Jesus Christ – the son of God, died for their sins and returned to life three days later to fight death and evil. Easter is celebrated on Sunday. Here are some answers to the frequently asked questions concerning Easter celebration in Armenia.

1. What happens on Easter Day?

Christians celebrate Easter two days after Good Friday, the day of the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. In Armenia, people go to church, lent, paint eggs, fight with the eggs, gather together to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus Christ. This year (2018) Easter is celebrated on the 1st of April.

2. What is Easter and why do we celebrate it?

Easter is a Christian holiday, the greatest holiday in the Christian world. Christians celebrate Easter, as it was unbelievable that Jesus Christ died and resurrected. Jesus died because of our sins and resurrected to protect as from devil. We celebrate it to thank Him for his sacrifice.

3. How do you figure out when Easter is?

Easter is celebrated nearly at the same time as he was killed. We know the date of His death as it was at the time of the Jewish Passover festival. Jewish Christians dated Easter celebrations to the Passover festival. As Jesus rose from the dead on Sunday, Easter Day became the first Sunday after Passover.

4. How long was Jesus on the cross before he died?

Jesus Christ was on the cross for about six hours. The crucifixion began at 9:00 A.M. Darkness began at 12:00 P.M. Jesus died at 3:00 P.M. Jesus’ trial ended at 6:00 A.M. His crucifixion began about three hours later, and He died about six hours after that.

5. When is Easter celebrated in Armenia?

Easter Sunday celebration differs from year to year. Priests choose the date which should be Friday.

6. How They Celebrate Easter?

Being the first Christian country, Armenian Easter traditions are unique. Armenian women bake a cake. People paint boiled eggs especially in red color, which symbolizes the color of Jesus’ blood. Armenian children fight with the eggs. People also lent before Easter.

7. Traditional Easter food in Armenia

Speaking about the traditional Easter food in Armenia we should mention that Armenian women bake a cake with white flavoring, which symbolizes purity, make fried fish, herbs of different kinds, boil and paint eggs in different colors, rice with raisins and what not.
